and I read every word of it
page by page.
A couple of weeks ago in my Ladies Bible class we were studying about prayer and why we pray to God through Jesus. We talked about the fact that Christ is our "advocate" for us, to go to God for us in prayer. When I heard the word advocate, I immediately thought about what I used to do at my last job. I was a victim's advocate for women and children of domestic violence, dating violence, child abuse, and sexual assault and I went to court on their behalf to plead their case and ask for mercy and justice.
So ... what a cool thought.
That is what Jesus does for us.
As I sat there listening to everyone's thoughts on the subject, I could not help but toss around imagery in my head about what we were talking about. One lady expressed that she always thinks of praying in Jesus' name, as Him signing off on our prayer for us before it goes to the Father. I've never thought about it like that. I am sending all of my praise, all of my requests, and all of my cries of repentance and for forgiveness to God, and Jesus pleads my case for me.
I don't know about you, but that is such a comforting thought.
Now, every time I pray, I am much more conscious about the end of my prayer. It is not something I say out of habit, or something that I rush through to finish. I take my time, and in my mind I imagine my prayer...
in the form of a letter...
and the hand of Jesus signing his name
with the blood he shed for me.
Besides, who better to know the desires of my heart,
than He who died for it's very beat.
